Black and Brown Interpreters Meetup - Angel Oak Preserve In-Person
Join us for a guided walk through the future Angel Oak Preserve with Emelyn Talento. Emelyn is the Community Lands Associate for the Lowcountry Land Trust (LLT). She joined the team in August 2025 to support LLT’s community-centered conservation projects such as Beefield Community Park, Coakley Chapel Park, and the Angel Oak Preserve. Prior to her position at LLT, Emelyn worked at South Asian Youth Action, a New York City-based youth group that provides holistic, educational programming to young people from under-resourced and immigrant communities. She graduated from Hunter College in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies.
During our tour we'll get a behind-the-scenes look at the vision, design, and community-led effort to protect the Angel Oak, an iconic Lowcountry landmark. The tour will explore the natural and cultural history of the Angel Oak and offer a preview of the trails, exhibits, and living museum experience to come.
Lineup:
11am - 11:30am: Check in and announcements at Angel Oak Welcome Center
11:30am - 1pm: Tour with Emelyn Talento

The Black and Brown Interpreters Network™ is a group of natural and cultural history interpreters and tour guides based in the South Carolina Lowcountry and beyond who are dedicated to education, professional development and service in the field of heritage interpretation.
We meet monthly to learn from our fellow Black and Brown Interpreters and tour guides; network, share opportunities for continuing education and scholarships, explore local history and more.
Our meetups are open to the community of Black and Brown people who identify as cultural/historical and natural history interpreters, tour guides and tour company owners; and/or Black and Brown people who have completed or plan to complete the National Association for Interpretation's Certified Interpretive Guide training course.
