"The Stacks Speak: Dorothy Porter, Dart Library, and Stories That Shape Us" Online

Join us for a conversation on the legacy of Black librarianship featuring OlaRonke Akinmowo, who will discuss the groundbreaking work of Dorothy Porter Wesley. The program highlights Porter’s transformative impact on Black archival and library practices and connects her legacy to early Black library institutions such as Charleston’s historic Dart Library, the city’s first public library for African Americans.

The program will also feature Maya Hollinshead, who will share insights on Charleston’s Black Library history through her work at the Dart Library, highlighting its lasting role as a community anchor, cultural hub, and vital site of Black learning.

Additionally, Zora Mayo, a storyteller at the Fulshear Branch Library in Texas, will discuss how her storytelling practice continues the tradition of Black women as cultural bearers, educators, and community memory keepers.
