Film Screening - 1912: Breaking the Silence with Gloria Rolando In-Person
Join us for a special screening of 1912: Breaking the Silence, a powerful film by renowned Cuban filmmaker Gloria Rolando, who is on tour in the United States. This documentary uncovers the little-known history of the 1912 massacre of over 3,000 Black Cubans in Santiago de Cuba and explores the legacy of the Partido Independiente de Color (PIC). Through historical accounts and archival materials, the film examines the struggles of Black Cubans for political representation and racial justice in the early 20th century.
Following the screening, we will hold a discussion on the PIC’s significance and its relevance to ongoing struggles for Black liberation in Cuba and beyond. Light refreshments will be provided.
This event is free and open to the public.
